About This Project

East Road – Dudley Developments of Cambridge approached Tristen with the brief to design a communal garden space for a new block of student flats in the heart of Cambridge. The space would face a few key challenges, mainly the limited amount of sun the courtyard would receive and also the limited space available whilst still maintaining the required accessibility to all parts of the building.
The solution was to employ a circular theme which would soften the unusual angular shape of the courtyard garden and by incorporating trees and a curved pergola, it would draw attention away from the surrounding buildings and create a feeling of seclusion. Central to the garden is a circular sunken seating area for users to relax and socialise surrounded by a selection of evergreen and textural shrubs. To lighten the space the boundary wall would be rendered white and paving is a beige colour to reflect light into the space.
